It takes courage to decide to do what you want and figure out who you are. “It’s easier to be brave when you’re not alone,” says Poehler. Find a support system, because then it's OK to be brave or foolish.

This book changed my perception of the world and myself. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone with a creative edge.

There are people like me out there and I am happy to know it. Reading this book has made me feel less alone in the world. It has taken me a long time to learn to be comfortable in my own skin and reading about Amy’s thoughts, feelings and reactions to certain situations (the creepy hugging thing – read and you will understand). I had always thought I was a ‘weird’ kid when reflecting on my childhood and some of the things I got up to. We have some similar experiences growing up and we share some of the same issues surrounding teenage years and early twenties. This endeared me to her even more as I felt I could relate to her. Relating to Amy was easy because she’s so real and down to earth, she doesn’t make a big deal out of being popular and she has the same thoughts and fears as very one else. ‘Yes Please’ is a comfortable read and I felt that I could not put it down. She is personable, and I felt like I was talking with a friend as opposed to reading a book. Part of this I believe is the way that Amy manages to put her voice across through her writing. I came away with a better understanding of improv and comedy. However, to my surprise I really enjoyed learning about Amy’s past and how she developed as a person and a comedienne over the years. I imagined I would find it confusing and boring, I had already decided to flick through those pages. When I first picked this up I thought I would get bored learning about the early days of Amy’s career because as much as I love her comedy, I did not have prior knowledge of the comedic industry. Throughout the book Amy preaches its quality not quantity that gets you to where you want to be, and I must believe she’s right. However, this book far surpassed any exceptions I may have had. I can count the amount of them I have read on one hand (three including this one) and the other two I was severely disappointed in (Gordon Ramsey’s ‘Humble Pie’ & Richard Ayoade’s ‘Ayoade on Ayoade’). Let me say this first before we continue the review for this book.
